Kaspersky Lab Malware Attacks in Asia - Philippines not included in Top List


This year, Internet Security and Content Management giant Kaspersky Labs, released its annual Top 20 Countries with Malware Attacks. The Philippines, whose ranked among the top countries in the past is no longer on this year's list.
The Philippines, which was ranked 19th last year, was replaced by Bangladesh for this years report received 1.25% of computer related attacks using malicious application over the same period. Although comforting, Kaspersky Lab analyst Yury Namestnikov, commented that "this does mean that the attacks have lessened..."

What the report indicates is that the Philippines has fallen in popularity as a host for malicious application. The report also indicated that for the second quarter of this year (Q2) saw a spike of incidents in the Peer-to-peer (P2P) worm Palevo in the country. The worm, which served as a Bot-client propagates through instant messengers, USB flash drives, and other Peer-to-peer applications such as BearShare and Kazaa.

Kaspersky analyst also added that IM-Worm.Win32.Sohanad.bm has been detected in over 20% of Asian countries making it the 4th most common malware in the region during the same period this year.
